Flextra

Flextra is a thermoplastic sealant from Mulco. Mulco lists it for seal joints around door and window frames, sidings, glass in window frames. Mulco gives the application temperature as 5 to 30 °C (40 to 86 °F), which the product and the surface both have to meet on the day. Cranco carries it, and which counter has it on the day changes, so ask at the counter.

Flextra is perfect for sealing outdoor joints around door and window frames, sidings and glass in window frames.

Flextra is a one-part thermoplastic sealant made by Mulco for outdoor joints around door and window frames, sidings and glass in window frames. It carries ASTM C920 Type S Grade NS Class 25 Use NT and CAN/CGSB-19.13-M87, it is gunned between 5 and 30 °C, and it holds from -40 to 50 °C in service.

What is Mulco Flextra used for?

Outdoor joints between two perpendicular surfaces that move with temperature: door and window frames, sidings, and glass in window frames. Mulco lists steel, galvanized steel, painted or stained wood, aluminium, concrete, masonry, glass, fibreglass and PVC as substrates it adheres to. Mulco says exterior use only.

Is Mulco Flextra paintable?

Yes, and Mulco prints a condition beside it: where Flextra is painted, the paint may crack if the joint moves more than the paint can stretch. Flextra is rated Class 25 under ASTM C920, so on a joint working near that figure the paint is the part that fails first.

How fast does Flextra set?

Mulco puts a 2-minute tack-free time on the product. The data sheet Cranco holds carries no tack-free or cure figure, and says the drying time depends on temperature, relative humidity and ventilation. Ask the counter for Mulco's number before you plan a cold-weather run.

Can you use the clear Flextra on any siding?

Mulco says to test the siding colour first, because the colour of some materials washes out under the solvent and will yellow or tint the sealant. Where the colour matters, Mulco prefers an opaque colour to the clear or translucent grade.

Where can you buy Mulco Flextra?

At Cranco's counters in Concord, Barrie and Mississauga. The addresses, phone numbers and hours are further down this page. Mulco's sheet names no colour list and no package sizes, so call ahead and the counter will tell you what they have.

Limitations from Mulco

Before using the clear or the translucent product, test the resistance of the siding colour, the colour of some materials wash out by solvents and will yellow or colour the sealant. Does not adhere to polyethylene, polypropylene, recycled plastic, Teflon or other comparable materials. Make sure the joint variation does not exceed the "FLEXTRA" elasticity. When "FLEXTRA" is painted, the paint may crack if "FLEXTRA" supports a movement higher than the paint elasticity. The drying time of "FLEXTRA" depends on temperature, relative humidity and ventilation. The shelf life is diminished by warehousing over 25°C (77°F). Not for joints submerged in water for prolonged periods of time. Use outdoors only; do not use inside houses. When possible, the use of opaque colour is preferable to the use of clear or translucent product. Adhesion on material not specifically mentioned cannot be guaranteed. It is up to the customer to make his own performance tests or to consult our technical department.
