Polyurethane sealants

Compare Dymonic 100, Vulkem 116 and TremGlaze U1500 for construction joints. Each has its own movement rating and application limits.

These are sealants applied to joints. Expanding polyurethane foam is a separate product group under caulking and foam.

Can Vulkem 116 or TremGlaze U1500 be used indoors?

Both Tremco data sheets restrict these products to exterior use. They also say not to use them inside an occupied building even when occupants are absent during application.

Can polyurethane sealant be painted?

The Dymonic 100, Vulkem 116 and TremGlaze U1500 data sheets allow painting but require paint compatibility to be checked. Paintability does not establish adhesion to every paint. Follow the product instructions and Tremco’s paint compatibility guidance.

Movement and exterior-use limits

Tremco reports Dymonic 100 at ±50% movement under ASTM C719 and +100/−50% under a modified ASTM C719 test. Vulkem 116 and TremGlaze U1500 are each rated ±25% under ASTM C719. The test method matters when comparing the figures.

Vulkem 116 and TremGlaze U1500 are exterior-use products. Their data sheets prohibit application over damp, green or contaminated surfaces. Dymonic 100 has different substrate instructions, including adhesion to damp and green concrete. Read the linked sheet for the product and joint you are specifying.
