Flexible plywood: what it is used for, and the sizes Cranco carries

Posted

FlexPly is a birch plywood with its veneers laid so the sheet bends to the radius a job needs, right at the site.

Cranco carries it in 4 by 8 ft sheets: 9 mm with 7 plies, 12 mm with 9 plies and 15 mm with 11 plies.

Its bending strength along the grain is at least 120 MPa.

Flexible and flat birch plywood

What is flexible plywood used for?

Formwork for round columns and curved girders, radial framed formwork and curved walls, decorative columns and wall panels, and vending trailers and camper vans.

  • Larger curved work: cooling towers, tunnels, bridge supports and arches, parking structures and sports facilities
  • An elastic film that resists cracking is available as an option

Which grade to ask for

  • BB: knots over 25 mm and visible defects can be patched with veneer.
  • F and FF: several defects that cannot be patched. Mostly used for formwork.
