Extreme-weather foam temperature limits

Use the application range to plan the installation. Keep the temperature-resistance range separate.

For Hilti CF-I XTW WD extreme-weather foam, the listed application range is −15°C to 35°C. The separate −40°C to 80°C temperature-resistance range isn’t permission to apply it at those temperatures.

These figures belong to this Hilti product. Check another foam’s own instructions before using either range to plan your work.

At −20°C, the application range settles the question

Planning to foam an outdoor opening at −20°C? That’s below CF-I XTW WD’s listed application minimum of −15°C, even though it falls within the temperature-resistance range. Don’t use the lower resistance figure to justify the installation.

At the other end, 35°C is the listed application maximum. The 80°C resistance figure doesn’t extend that limit.

Check what the temperature reading covers

Before scheduling the job, confirm the exact product and compare the expected installation conditions with its application range. Then check the application instructions for the can and the surface you’ll be foaming.

The supplied Hilti product-page extract lists one application range but doesn’t say whether it refers to air, substrate or can temperature. It also gives no separate can-conditioning, storage or frost-preparation instructions. Don’t assume one outdoor thermometer reading settles all of those checks.

If those details affect your job, get Hilti’s application instructions or ask Hilti to confirm them before proceeding.

Don’t turn the listed times into a winter schedule

Hilti lists an approximate tack-free time of 10 minutes at 74°F and 50% relative humidity, and an approximate cut time of 25 minutes at 23°C and 50% relative humidity. Those aren’t cold-weather timing figures. The supplied extract gives no full-cure time.
