Baseboard, Shoe Base, Quarter Round and Back Band: Which Moulding Goes Where
A finished room needs more than casing. Baseboard runs along the floor line, a smaller moulding closes the gap under it, and a door stop and back band finish the opening.
All of these are finger-joint pine, primed on all sides, and they come in matching profiles so the whole room carries the same line.
Baseboard
Baseboard covers the joint where the wall meets the floor. We carry it in two profiles, both 5 1/2 in by 3/4 in, in 16 ft lengths.
Colonial baseboard matches Colonial casing, and Step Bevel baseboard matches Step Bevel casing.
Under the baseboard: shoe base and quarter round
Floors are rarely flat. A small moulding at the foot of the baseboard covers the gap the floor leaves behind.
Shoe base is the slimmer option at 1/2 in by 3/4 in. Quarter round is a full 3/4 in by 3/4 in quarter circle.
Cove moulding, also 3/4 in by 3/4 in, has a concave face and finishes inside corners.
Around the opening: back band and door stop
Back band wraps the outside edge of the casing and gives it more depth. We carry a standard and a modern profile, both in 15 ft lengths.
Door stop is the strip on the jamb that the door closes against. It comes plain or in Step Bevel, to match Step Bevel casing, in 12 ft lengths.

Curved walls and arched openings
Straight pine will not follow a curve. Our catalogue lists flexible mouldings as a special order, matching our Colonial, Step Bevel and Back Band casing profiles and flat extensions, in lengths up to 12 ft. They are made to a template of the curve, so ask the counter what the template needs to show.
